The East MidlandsLETB is working with Warwick Medical School to deliver Leadership and Management modules as part of the Generic Curriculum for Post-Foundation Medical and Specialty Trainees. This programme of modules, developed in line with regional initiatives and Collegial recommendations and requirements, aims to give trainees access to development opportunities which will enable them to broaden their range of knowledge and understanding, skills and professional approaches to their work, as well as expertise in their own specialty.
The published 'Medical Leadership Competency Framework' has formed the basis of the curriculum. The work has been developed jointly by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and has therefore received the approval of the Royal Colleges of all trainees. The publication can be found at: www.institute.nhs.uk/.
The training programme is divided into three levels, delivered as one day face-to-face learning in Education Centres and then trainees will be expected to submit a written Reflective Assignment within three months of the session on a work-based subject.
The 2013-2014 programme will commence in November 2013. An email will be sent to all trainees in the region with more information before the end of September 2013. Further details will then be sent in early October which will include login details for the website to book sessions, and the level of training course to which you have been assigned.
The course itself is not compulsory. However, it is an excellent way to achieve the Leadership and Management competences the GMC expects all trainees to achieve. For trainees who are already familiar with the process, please note that our contact email address has changed to: HEEM.firstname.lastname@example.org. We will use this address to contact all trainees, so you are advised to add this to your contacts so our emails do not go into your ‘Junk’ folders.
