What you need to know about study leave

NHS England has responsibility for setting strategy for Study Leave, for managing the online application system (Accent Leave Manager - https://accent.hicom.co.uk/Portal/Live/Web/), managing the budget and for hearing appeals. The East Midlands has been using an online application system since August 2013; in September 2021, we upgraded to the new Accent Leave Manager system to manage all study leave applications across the East Midlands. All existing leave requests have been transferred to Accent Leave Manager, and can continue to be approved/claimed as usual.

NOTE: These details apply to those substantively appointed to an East Midlands training programme. This does not include those recruited through the Medical Training Initiative (MTI) scheme; we have some brief guidance for MTI appointees here: www.eastmidlandsdeanery.nhs.uk/policies/study_leave/MTI

NOTE: Separate budget arrangements are in place for Primary Care and Dentistry further guidance available here: www.eastmidlandsdeanery.nhs.uk/policies/study_leave/International_Leave_and_Budget_Increases. For Foundation programmes, entitlements are listed in the Study Leave policy (www.eastmidlandsdeanery.nhs.uk/policies/study_leave/ResourcesGuidance).

For international leave note that all applications are also reviewed by the Associate Postgraduate Dean. Further guidance and information is available here: www.eastmidlandsdeanery.nhs.uk/policies/Study_Leave/Roles/InternationalApprover

For reimbursement guidance please contact your local Study Leave Coordinator at the Trust or GP Programme Office.
