Trainers Grant (automatic payment no invoice required)
Trainer Grants for GP Practices in the East Midlands will now be made at the end of each rotation (still every 4 months during ST3). Payments will continue to be made directly to the practice, a daily rate will be applied pro rata, calculating the applicable TG based on the period the trainee is in the practice.
The practice will not receive a Trainer Grant if a trainee is on long term sick leave. However, NHSE will support Phased returns with no reductions made.
From the 1 April 2026 the rate of payment has increased to £11,175.00 per annum. Please be reminded, payments are made on a pro-rata basis, based on a daily rate of £30.62
For FY2 Trainees, the current reimbursement is a flat rate of £3,725 per four month rotation.
Below are planned payment dates for this financial year. Payments will include applicable trainer grants for all registrars;
March 2026 to include TG for the period 03 December 2025 - 31 March 2026
September 2026 to include TG for the period 01 April 2026 – 04 August 2026
December 2026 to include TG for the period 05 August 2026 – 01 December 2026
March 2027 to include TG for the period 02 December 2026-31 March 2027
Payments are made in line with rotations to ensure they are as accurate as possible. You can review payments on PSCE statement.
Please contact us at England.GPPracticePayments.Midlands@nhs.net if you have any queries relating to payments you have received.
Enhanced Trainers Grant (ETG)
This grant is awarded to those practices with additional supervisory commitment. It is not a routine mechanism for financial uplift, for example, being in an extension to training alone, or having experienced examination failure alone, would not normally qualify a practice for additional financial support.
As a general principle, we would usually only consider awarding an enhanced trainers grant where a resident has received an outcome 3 (OC3) at ARCP, recognising the level of additional supervision often required in that context. However, we appreciate that there may be circumstances where a resident requires significant additional support without having received an OC3. In such cases, following discussion with the relevant Training Programme Director (TPD), we would be happy to consider an application where it is felt that the level of support required would justify the award of the grant.
An application is required to be submitted via a simple electronic online form- please select below link;
Enhanced Trainer Grant Application Form - East Midlands School of General Practice v2 – Fill in form
Completed applications will be reviewed by the East Midlands GP School team on a case-by-case basis. Following this review, a recommendation will be made to the Senior Management Team regarding approval of an uplift to the Trainer’s Grant. Recommendations will normally be made on the basis of either a 25% or 50% uplift.
If a further period of enhanced grant is required, a new application with revised dates will need to be submitted.
