GP Practice Managers

When GP STs are in GP placements, they are employees of the practice. Like all staff therefore, the manager of the practice will have an interest and responsibility for the trainee’s status, behaviour and professional development. Whilst practices will inevitably vary in the extent to which overall responsibility and involvement is devolved from the trainer, it is usual for the manager to be involved in the employment checks, induction and relationship between the trainee and the staff. Most practices recognise the manager’s potential for teaching trainees in their particular areas of expertise that also make up part of the GP curriculum.

With the change to a single lead employer for GP trainees in East Midlands, please see the downloadable guide which has been developed. For the time being, this replaces the previous practice manager handbook which was available on this page.
