Less than Full Time Training

The LETB offers Less Than Full Time training (flexible training) at 50% of full time in general practice placements at ST1 and ST2 and 60% at ST3.  For hospital posts it is usually on a 50% slot-share basis.  Training will also include pro rata on-call commitments

Who is Eligible?

You must have well founded personal reasons such as:

  • caring for young children
  • caring for dependent relatives
  • health reasons

How to apply

Complete the LTFT Eligibility Application Form and also liaise with your GP Programme Manager to make them aware of your application.

Once your eligibility and LTFT start date has been confirmed the Programme Director with responsibility for LTFT will recalculate your CCT date.

It is your responsibility to discuss and agree your LTFT timetable with your Trainer/Clinical Supervisor for each post.

Please note acceptance to LTFT does not guarantee less than full time posts and it may necessitate either working full time or going out of programme and wait until a suitable post arises.

If you would like to know the normal process for applying for Less Than Full Time training, this process flow chart will help inform you. Detailed information on many aspects of LTFT can be found in the booklet Less Than Full-time Training for General Practice.

If you have any further queries please contact the LTFT Administrator, Daria Neagu – ltft.em@hee.nhs.uk / 0115 823 3387.
