Neurosurgery training in the East Midlands gives you great experience at some of the UK's leading facilities

The East Midlands is one of the leading neurology and neurosurgery centres in the UK. Your training is based at the hospitals and facilities in Nottingham which mean you're based in a nationally renowned centre supported by one of the UK's top 25 universities.

As well as learning all the aspects of neurosurgical training  required for the FRCS (Neurosurg)  and CCT you'll also have opportunities to gain additional experience in functional neurosurgery, paediatric neurosurgery and complex spinal surgery in the adjacent Spinal Unit.

Proximity and links to the University of Nottingham make it possible for you to engage in research in allied fields such as Academic Radiology or to gain experience in the thriving Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre.

Unlike many other regions that offer a brief period of paediatric training, you'll also benefit from on-call experience  in adult and paediatric neurosurgery throughout your training time. The East Midlands also boasts a well developed neurosurgical simulation programme – the increasingly widely used “Rowena” head was developed in Nottingham - and you'll have the opportunity to join courses and training sessions using Rowena.

This high quality training also means you will develop the right skills and knowledge for your future career. The region has an excellent exam record and almost all trainees pass at their first sitting.
