Resident Doctors are often the first to identify issues within clinical and educational environments as their day-to-day experience gives them a unique insight into challenges that may affect patient safety and training quality. This guidance sets out the process that Resident Doctors should follow when raising concerns about their training environment and patient safety, or any other issue that may affect the quality of training or care. A range of support is available to Resident Doctors who raise concerns. Depending on the nature of the issue, this may include support from Educational Supervisors, Clinical Supervisors, Training Programme Directors, Heads of School, Directors of Medical Education, postgraduate medical education teams, Freedom to Speak Up Guardians, Guardians of Safe Working Hours, Resident Doctor representatives, and local wellbeing services.
