Mansfield is situated in the heart of ancient Sherwood Forest, with easy access to the M1 and the countryside of the Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales. Mansfield and Newark District has a mixed economic base and the former coal-mining and textile industries have now mainly been replaced by retail and light industry. Ambitious regeneration projects in recent years have transformed Mansfield in terms of retail, leisure, housing and industry. It has become a desirable place to work and live and has a wide range of attractions for residents and visitors. For those who like a lively lifestyle the cities of Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield are all within easy reach and a 15 minute drive in any direction will take you into rural surroundings. Newark is a rural market town with quick access to London by rail.

The Mansfield Programme is a small, friendly programme offering a high level of pastoral support for all our Registrars. We have excellent trainers and excellent hospital posts in a busy District General Hospital. The 3 year programmes contain 20 months within General Practice placements, General Practice attachments are based in a mix of urban, deprived and rural areas.

Rotational Hospital posts attached to the scheme are based at King's Mill Hospital, which is part of the Sherwood Hospitals NHS Trust, and occasionally Bassetlaw District Hospital and Nottingham University Hospitals. Specialties include Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Acute Medicine / Care of the Elderly, Accident & Emergency, Psychiatry and Palliative Care.

The programme runs a weekly half-day release course along with a residential course, mock CSA, and away days to support our GPRs with nMRCGP. The Mansfield programme encourages and prepares GPRs for the MRCGP, Child Health Surveillance training, Family Planning, Obstetric List training and Minor Surgery. In recent years we have had a 100 % pass rate for both MRCGP and DRCOG.
