SUPPORTED RETURN TO TRAINING SCHOOL AND TRUST CHAMPIONS
We are aiming that each employing trust and specialty School within the East Midlands region will have a designated SuppoRTT Champion, whose role is to oversee the return-to-work process. Champions are all hospital consultants/GPs working within trusts or GP Practices. The role of the Champion is to support trainees and trainers is to troubleshoot specific issues involving returning trainees in their School or Trust/GP Practice by liaising with the trainees' clinical area and Supervisor. Throughout the RTT process, the trainee’s reviews will be with their educational supervisor, but if additional guidance or support is required, the SuppoRTT Champions are a fantastic resource. They will have detailed knowledge of the local and regional resources available for return to training e.g. SuppoRTT mentoring scheme, return to training events such as one-day conferences and study days.
On this page you will find details of the current Supported Return to Training Trust and School Champions. Their contact details are included and please feel free to contact them direct. Where a School/Trust is listed as tba - this means "to be appointed" and in this case please contact the SuppoRTT Team for further help and support at SuppoRTT.email@example.com

ANAESTHETICS - DR NICOLA HICKMAN
My name is Nicky Hickman - I am a Consultant Anaesthetist at Leicester General Hospital, Training Programme Director, and an Educational Supervisor, as well as the SuppoRTT Champion for the East Midlands School of Anaesthesia. As a mother of 3 who is a bit injury-prone, I have experienced several returns to training and work - I know first hand how hard it can be, as well as what a difference good support makes.
I have been interested in improving the experience of trainees returning to work for a number of years, established a Return to Work process for the school of Anaesthesia several years ago. Subsequently I developed this to include a tailor-made one day course, to which all returners to anaesthesia are welcome.
Please feel free to contact me at either my emanaesthesia email address, or my uhl one. Remember to use my Sunday name - Nicola.Hickman
|GP - DR CAROLINE POWELL
I qualified as a doctor in 1998, in Sheffield. I spent a few years doing surgery before switching to GP training and qualifying as a GP in 2004. I then worked for 8 years as a GP partner before moving to my current practice in Chesterfield, where I work part time as a salaried GP and GP trainer.
Outside of work, I have two daughters, my husband and our dog to feed and entertain. I love playing tennis and doing Pilates, and enjoy spending time outdoors.
I'm looking forward to being able to support trainees who've had some time out to get them back into their training.
